Having studied 100 men and women who were recently diagnosed with oral cancer, as well as 200 people without the disease, the study concluded that HPV infection is a much stronger risk factor than tobacco or alcohol use.
And yes, there’s a higher price to pay for promiscuity; participants who reported having oral sex -- fellatio or cunnilingus -- with six or more partners were at the highest risk (8.6 times more) of Throat Cancer.
Since the study claims that HPV infection contracted through oral sex is much a stronger risk factor than tobacco use, we asked cigar afficionado ad man Prahlad Kakar whether this would cause people to smoke more and indulge in oral sex less often. Here’s what he says:

Nisha Kothari is upset about rumours that she is quitting Bollywood for a career in the South Ram Gopal Varma’s protégée and former blue-eyed babe is quite the bubbly one these days. It’s not joy she’s bubbling over; it’s rage.
The actress sounds miffed when we ask her if she’s seriously packing bag and baggage and moving to a career in South Indian films.
“This is completely false. While I started my career with the Tamil film Jai Jay (opposite R Madhavan), I have done one Telegu film, Okka Magadu, with Balakrishnan.
I haven’t done any other South films since. This is not to say that I don’t enjoy working in South films, as they have always been good films, but I am not quitting Bollywood.”
It has been reported that she has signed another Telugu film with newcomer Nitin, but Nisha maintains, “This is news to me. I have no idea about this film.
When the director of Okka Magadu congratulated me for signing this film with Nitin, I was shocked because I had done nothing of the kind. Someone down South is spreading rumours about me.”
Nisha says she is happy with the work she’s doing in Bollywood, and recently shot for a music video with Fardeen Khan for Darling. “Everybody wants to do a lot of work, but I have no plans of leaving Bollywood.
However, I will continue to do South films that give me a good role and good money. In fact, I do South films mostly because of the money,” she admits.
As for her alleged link-up mentor Ramu, she says her family is far more tolerant than she is about things like this. “These false stories don’t bother my family at all.
Sometimes I feel they are far more liberal than I am. I often end up fighting with my father because I get upset that he doesn’t question me or ask me to clarify these rumours!”
Nisha’s upcoming Hindi releases include RGV’s Sholay and the stuck-in-the-doldrums Go.
Net blackmailer from city nabbed
Mysore: Netizens, especially women, beware. Giving out personal information, like residential address, phone numbers, credit card numbers and photographs, to strangers on the internet could cost you dearly.
The Mysore city police on Friday picked up a youth from Hyderabad who used to extort lakhs of rupees from women in Mysore. Neeraj Vaidya made friends with women on internet chatrooms and would extract personal information from them. After getting their details, he would call or send messages through his mobile phone, threatening them that he would upload their personal data on national and international porn websites if they failed to pay up.
One woman, who had fallen victim to his designs, filed a complaint at a local police station on May 15. She had already paid Rs 3.5 lakh to get the blackmailer off her back. But he started pestering her for Rs 6 lakh. That is when she decided to file the complaint.
The police collected all the information about Neeraj from the woman and formed a special team, led by a sub-inspector, to crack the case. They asked the woman to continue chat sessions with Neeraj so that they could trace him. Neeraj used three email IDs to chat.
They picked him up in Hyderabad on Friday, within three days of registering the complaint.
They recovered Rs 1.65 lakh and a laptop from Neeraj, who was an IT professional and had worked for several companies in Hyderabad.
