Real Estate: Realtors Envy-LANCO'S Pride

Enquiries, bookings and registrations are going in big way for the Lanco Hills, as per the Realty sources. The most expensive domicile is receiving great response for the following reasons, say the sources:

1. It is very closely located to Jubilee Hills
2. Being built as unique master piece in entire AP with multiple floors
3. Advertisement is done in very big way alluring everyone
4. The projections given in Ad are also impressive
5. The price is reasonable (approx Rs 4500 per sft, say the unofficial sources)

Although there is no boom, the venture is getting this response for its location and projection factor.

On the flip side many realtors are envious of LANCO Raj Gopal. His wife Padma Raj Gopal is getting many new friends ever since the announcement of LANCO Hills venture. Although the flats are being sold out in brisk pace, the wives of many realtors are enquiring with envy, "Had they really sold out?"

Similarly the bigger venture is proposed in Vijayawada as well by other group. The prices of flats are ranging from Rs 30 to Rs 35 lakh at present. Although the standards will be trendy, until and unless any big software hub comes to Vijayawada, the rental values remain very low.

Interesting discussion on Babu's Knowledge Forum

Former chief minister and Telugu Desam president N Chandrababu Naidu has launched a Knowledge Forum to enable him to get feedback and suggestions on important issues from Telugu NRIs.

Here are some of the suggestions Babu has received:

First suggestion on How to make villages self-sufficient and happy to live?
People from villages are migrating to cities in big numbers in search of jobs. Day by day life in villages is becoming difficult with deceases like Dengue, chiken gunea ,viral fevers etc in addition to under employment , poverty , rising prices ,unhealthy environment without protected drinking water. In this context can the NRIs suggest few solutions? 1. How agriculture and agro-based industries can be developed to provide jobs at local places to make their lives better,. 2 How to develop rural society, some plans, 3. How to contain migrations from villages to urban centers, 4 Can you suggest some low cost patented technologies to be used in villages specially in Andhra Pradesh, 5. Can you suggest small and simple technologies, which can be procured ,useful in rural society to create sustainable economy to make the lives of villagers happy , 6. Can you adopt a village and serve it through your kith and kin or NRIs adopting a group of most backward villages and provide infrastructure and amenities like health and education in addition to providing useful vocations. Suggestions requested.

Second suggestion:
hello, i am chaitanay doing my MBA in UK. i am from hyderabad but my native place is vijayawada and so i have a little exposure in the rural areas in krishna distrit. coming to the point, how to make villages slef-sufficient , i have few point. 1. basic needs such as transportation and education and at the same time water supply and electricity must be there. provide the water supply and electricity for every home without any power cut. we can produce current and better to haev seperate stations for every village. 2. please make sure that the rice and other products produced by the village people are directly brought into market, and you aleady did that but if we have 10 members in between the process the villager cant get the right price. let him tell his selling price and you on belahf of government buy it and again distribute to teh market. 3.we can also provide free intermediate in corporate colleges. so after 10th the student from village can study in GOWTHAM,SRICHAITANYA,VIKAS OR NARAYAN inter colleges. these people are earning crores and its not a big deal to give the student two year free coaching. i am sorry if i say any thing wrong, because i have full idea about education and industrialization. but i dont have full knowldge aout rural areas but i will forward some techiniques which are used in UK nad US as well.

Save Indian Family at the TANA Conference 2007

Since its inception in the year 2000, Save Indian Family Foundation (SIFF) has been working to spread awareness among the public regarding the increasing misuse of women-protection laws such as IPC 498A. We have conducted conferences and seminars, press meets, protests, and awareness campaigns. We met with politicians and bureaucrats soliciting their attention to the blatant injustice being done to innocent men, women and children. We have been able to generate active debate in the media (newspapers and TV) regarding anti-male, anti-family legal provisions.Recently, SIFF made its first public presence outside of India by setting up an exhibit booth at the Telugu Association of North America (TANA) Conference 2007, held between July 5-7 in Washington D.C. This was a very important event for SIFF given that Andhra Pradesh is a leading state in terms of the number of cases filed under Section 498A of IPC.

During our two month preparation we designed banners and placards for display, flyers, information brochures and bookmarks for distribution, and an informative power point presentation to be played in the background to catch the attention of visitors. We also showed the documentary “IPC 498A - Death Trap”, made by none other than the Telugu actor and founder of Bhaaryaa Baadhitula Sangham, Sri. CVL. Narasimha Rao.

Three SIFF volunteers spoke to around 250 visitors during the two days that our exhibit was in place. We were pleasantly surprised to learn that at least 50% of the people had heard of the misuse of anti-dowry laws against husbands and their families, although their knowledge was mostly superficial. The rest of the visitors, mainly those who had settled abroad for 20-30 years, were new to the subject. A few individuals had good knowledge of the issues and exhibited a clear and logical approach towards the problems we described. NRIs who had recently visited India had a lot to say about misuse of anti-dowry laws. At least four women said that “the issue was all over the media”.

We made it a point to inform everyone that IPC 498A was a criminal section, which is non-bailable and non-compoundable, and that arrests are made on the basis of allegations without any investigation or evidence. Some visitors said that they personally knew one or two families who had been falsely implicated under allegations of dowry harassment. There were a couple of visitors who had themselves undergone the trauma of fighting a false case. One of them said that 14 members of his friend’s family were arrested under false charges.

It was interesting to note that when couples were asked if they had heard of the laws and their misuse more women than men answered in the affirmative. Many men seemed to be completely unaware of the laws. Some visitors who initially walked past the exhibit reading our placards, returned to ask what some of them meant. They were especially interested in knowing what “legal terrorism” was. We told them that the Supreme Court of India termed the misuse of IPC 498A as “legal terrorism” and that Indian courts have declared IPC 498A as the most abused provision. We mentioned the World Health Organization’s observation that misuse of IPC 498A was the prevalent reason for elder abuse in India. We also emphasized how NRIs are specifically vulnerable, and how they are being harassed by the Indian law enforcement system.

We encountered only 6-7 individuals who said that “women are almost always the victims” , and that “a woman would never do anything that jeopardizes her marriage”. Only a couple of them persisted in maintaining that position even after we pointed out the statistics of misuse (against men, women and children) and explained how the laws that claim to protect women are actually misused to harm more women. Those that persisted said that “unless you arrest the mother and sister of an accused NRI, you cannot bring him back to India to face the charges”. A few people felt that “this kind of law balances out the wrongs done to women historically”. Most of them understood that this rationale was flawed when we pointed out that punishing innocent people cannot bring justice to real victims and that two wrongs cannot make a right. Emphasizing that the number of people affected by false cases is rapidly increasing helped them understand the gravity of the problem. We also mentioned that an overload of false cases will prevent genuine victims from getting justice.

A significant number of men and women observed that “these days women are not hesitating to misuse the laws to harass their husbands and in-laws”. Many people expressed concern over the rising number of marital disputes among Indian couples and the consequent rise in divorce rates and single parenting. A lot of elders lamented the blind subscription to western values and destruction of family and kinship ties in the younger generation. Referring to the frequent denial of parenting rights to fathers, a visitor commented that “a bad father is better than no father at all, and the negative consequences of fatherless families are already evident in the United States”. A few visitors observed that “women’s organizations are the reason behind the current disappointing state of affairs”. One of the them even said, “Mahilaa sanghaalu would have made a huge noise if you had set up the same booth in India”.

Around 15 of our visitors were interested in doing something to make a difference. They include software professionals, a social worker (Sri. GVVSDS Prasad), and a Telugu actor (Sripada Venkata Subba Rao). We were also approached by a law student in the US, who was interested in learning more details regarding women-protection laws and their implementation in India, as part of her research.

Most visitors were glad to learn about our self-help group and the support we provide to victims of anti-dowry laws. Even visitors who were initially wary felt reassured once they learned that we were only fighting against misuse of women-protection laws, that we provide voluntary assistance and that we did not seek donations.

We distributed our information packet to the TANA Press, Telugu One, and TV Asia. The TANA Press took video footage of our booth. We were delighted to meet with former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh, Sri. Nara Chandrababu Naidu, and handed him our information packet.

Overall, our attempts to spread awareness at the TANA Conference were very fruitful. Our sincere thanks to the TANA Conference Organizing Committee for providing us this opportunity, and special thanks to Sr. Satya Surapaneni and Sri. Satish Vemana.

Hyderabad Buzz: Telangana voice in silence mode!

Looks like the separate Telangana demand has taken a back seat, though temporarily, after the GO 610 (jobs-for-locals) fiasco. The Telangana voice from the TRS headquarters, Telangana Bhavan, is now in a silence mode. According to sources, the TRS leadership has decided to keep a low profile for some time after it has hurt its own Telangana people by insisting on the implementation of the GO 610. More than half of the affected government employees were from Telangana and KCR has burnt his fingers. Even the Mulki (only locals please) demand has met with resistance from within the TRS and has no takers in the backward Telangana region.

Till his burnt fingers get healed, KCR wants to shut up his mouth and open it only when a serious issue crops up. That's the reason, he is not heard much these days, expect for an occasional speech or appearance here and there.

Fact Sheet: VH overenthusiasm backfires!

The overenthusiasm displayed by Rajya Sabha member V Hanumantha Rao in patching up the differences between Khairtabad MLA P Janardhan Reddy and Chief Minister Dr Y S Rajasekhar Reddy has backfired on him.

Hanumantha Rao, who is a close friend and philosopher for PJR, thought the latter would listen to his words and withdraws his plan to launch fast unto death. But PJR flatly refused his proposal and stuck to his stand that the government should immediately shift the police official who misbehaved with him and book attempt to murder case against YSR's brother Ravindra Reddy.

In the evening, VH went to YSR's brother to pacify him, but the latter too reportedly spoke in a humiliating tone against Telangana leaders in general and PJR in particular. VH felt insulted and returned empty handed. Perhaps, VH wanted to build up his own image by brokering the truce between YSR and PJR, but with both the groups refusing to relent, he threw up his hands and left it to the party high command.

Behind The Scene: Are they MLAs or goondas?

The unfortunate incident of the Congress and the Telugu Desam MLAs indulging in physical fighting in Visakhapatnam on Thursday is a clear indication to the growing hooliganism in politics.

Congress MLA from Ethcherla Kondru Murali Mohan and TD Palakonda MLA K Jogulu came to blows and the latter had his shirt torn in the scuffle during an argument over the irregularities in the construction of Indiramma houses. All this happened in the presence of housing minister Botsa Satyanarayana and Telugu Desam parliamentary party leader K Yerran Naidu. The MLAs behaved like street rowdies hurling filthy abuses, even as the minister remained a mute specatator.

And for the media, it is a hot news. The electronic channels gave different footage of the same incident – while ETV showed oneside version of the Congress MLA hitting the TD MLA, the TV9 telecast the other version of the TD MLA pulling his rival down. For the people who watched the scenes, however, it was the politics of worst grade. Looks like AP is gradually turning into another Bihar!!

PJR to explain to Sonia on street fisticuffs

A couple of days after it intervened in the street brawl episode between the kin of Chief Minister YS Rajasekhar Reddy and former CLP leader P Janardhan Reddy, the All India Congress Committee has now invited PJR to Delhi to sort out the differences between the two leaders, one from Rayalaseema and the other from Telangana.

According to sources, the AICC leadership has taken a serious note of the open street fight which brought down the repute of the Congress in the State. Now PJR will explain to Sonia Gandhi on what had really happened that day and the circumstances that led to the street brawl, which resembled nothing short of a rowdy fight. Both the sides flexed their limbs and muscles but the police, as is expected, acted in a one-sided manner. PJR will also explain to Sonia Gandhi how Rajasekhar Reddy was "misusing" the police force to browbeat his political opponents in the Congress and the opposition parties. He is also likely to explain to Sonia Gandhi how Rajasekhar Reddy had "intimidated" CPI State secretary K Narayana over a political issue.
