Will 30 Lakh Chennai Population Watch 'Sivaji'!
It is another statistical analysis. Abirami Ramanathan along with GV films has purchased the Chennai city rights of 'Sivaji'from the producer, AVM, spending the mammoth Rs. 6.50 crore. It is really historical price ever spent only on Chennai rights. How it could be a profitable venture at such huge price when 'Chandramukhi' itself made Rs 3.5 cr business despite the ticket price is higher?

But Abirami gives the reasoning saying, "There are 60 lakh voters in Chennai and plus another 40 lakh children and others. So, out of this 1 cr population even if 30 lakh watch the film it will end up with hugest profits".

Is that connvincing We have to wait and see.

Gossip: Heroine running behind astrologers!
We weren’t the least bit surprised when a little birdie told us that James actress Nisha Kothari has been meeting a host of astrologers and numerologists lately.

Apart from Ramu’s Sholay and Balakrishna's Okka Magadu, the actress doesn’t have any major releases to look forward to. What’s more, her other project with Ramu, titled Go, still hasn’t found any distributors and so Nisha has decided she needs some divine intervention.

“She has started fasting, visiting temples, chanting holy verses and other things. Nisha has also been doing the rounds of various astrologers seeking their guidance,” says the source.

Dahling, maybe you should be praying for some talent instead!

Side Talk: Sivaji fever rises on mobiles
With just two days left for the year’s most awaited release Sivaji: The Boss the excitement surrounding the film is reaching an all-time high. While many of Rajini’s fans are still scrambling around for tickets so that they can get a glimpse of their superstar on screen, others are ensuring that they leave no stone upturned to be a part of the Sivaji fever. The latest rage among fans is to download ringtone, caller tunes and wallpapers of the movie.

“When I heard some of the songs in Sivaji, especially the number Style I really liked it and I thought it would be a good idea to have it as my ringtone so I immediately downloaded it,” says Swetha Sairaj, a media student. Some people have downloaded Sivaji related stuff not because they like a particular song or a movie still but just for the simple fact that it has Rajinikanth. Says 27-year-old Vipin, “I’ve always been a great fan of Rajinikanth and that is why I have a Sivaji ringtone, call back tune and a wallpaper.”

Realising that the demand for these would peak just before the movie releases, mobile service providers are making sure that they release a variety of merchandise related to the movie, but for a price. “Downloading an ordinary ringtone will cost you anywhere upto Rs 10, but with the Sivaji specials the cost goes upto Rs 20 per tone,” adds Swetha.

Meanwhile mobile service providers say that they have not increased the prices on purpose, but the rights of the music itself are high. “It is not that we priced these ring tones higher just to generate revenue, but some costs of acquiring these tones and pictures were more than usual,” informs an employee of Airtel.

Hutch seems to have gone a step further, they have introduced a Sivaji Starter Pack at Rs 99. “We have done this just to add to the Sivaji excitement. When you subscribe to this pack all your charges continue as per the existing tariff but the difference is that you will receive two SMS alerts per day about the movie. The other advantage is also that you might stand a chance to win a ticket for the 100th day show of the movie,” says a Hutch sales executive.

10 Crore Alzheimer Patients By 2050 AD

A fresh discovery says that there will be 10 crore Alzheimer patients in the world by 2050. Alzheimer's is a disease that causes acute loss of memory and ultimately death within a few months or a couple of years. The brain loses sharpness in initial stage and slowly the memory loss hits it. It is generally caused in old age and that is called senile dementia or dotage. But Alzheimer hits the people in young age miserably.

In recent times the celebrities like Ronald Regan were passed away suffering from Alzheimer's. But indeed, he was hit by that disease in old age.

The changing life styles, pressure on brains, weakened quality of food; regular alcoholism among young ones are resulting in loss of memory and brain cell damage. The syndrome is widely observed among Asians and that too Indians in particular. So, it's time for researchers to find new ways to sharpen brains and protect from memory loss.

Krishnam Raju creates flutter at TDP meeting

Former Union Minister U.V. Krishnam Raju created flutter by appearing in the TDP flock during the visit of TDP president N. Chandrababu Naidu in West Godavari District on Tuesday.

With a BJP `kandua' around his shoulders, Mr. Raju came on to the dais with folded hands following an invitation and shared it with a galaxy of TDP leaders, keeping the rumour mills at work.

Mr Raju came in a huge convoy of vehicles with the fluttering saffron flags to the village well before the arrival of Mr. Naidu. It may be recalled that Mr. Krishnam Raju got elected to the Lok Sabha from Narsapur in alliance with the TDP and became a Minister in the NDA regime. However, his presence at the event turned out to be an enigma for the TDP cadres in the backdrop of Mr Naidu distancing himself from the `communal' BJP.

Who's a bigger star, Big B or Rajini?

At 58 Rajinikanth is the unchallenged badshah of Tamil cinema, and at 64, Amitabh Bachchan is still considered the shahenshah of Hindi films.

Both Rajinikanth and Amitabh began their careers in the 70s with bit roles and by the 80s they were the reigning demi-gods of the Tamil and Hindi film industry respectively.

Over the years they have co-starred in hits like Andha Kanoon, Geraftaar and Hum and individually they have a fanatic fan following. Consider the hundreds who arrive in Mumbai every year to wish the Big B on his birthday or the kilometre long crowds that line up for hours each time a Rajini film releases.

Cult figures when it comes to popular culture, Amitabh had little luck when it came to winning in the political arena, while Rajini has only shown a guarded interest of being politically ambitious.

But fact is that though, Rajinikanth has been restricted to being a Tamil icon, Amitabh's popularity is pan Indian, thanks to the reach of Hindi films.

“Rajini sir is probably the biggest superstar the country has ever had. The fan following he has is unquestionable. But his ability to speak South Indian languages clearly conveyed to the masses that he is a South Indian (sic). So, it was difficult for him to play North Indian roles,” actor Madhavan said.

But the economics have a different tale to tell. According to sources while Amitabh may charge anything between Rs 3-4 crore per film, Rajinikanth's fee can go over Rs 10 crore including a share of box-office profits.

Amitabh's last solo starrer Cheeni Kum has done above average business having collected over Rs 6 crore at the Indian box-office in two weeks, while Rajini's last release Chandramukhi was a blockbuster with earnings estimated at Rs 60 crore.

Even in terms of fan following, Amitabh’s official fan clubs are restricted at a modest 18 across India but Rajinikanth has over 35,000 fan clubs in Tamil Nadu alone.

And while we have already seen eight Amitabh films in the last one year, Rajinikanth now only does one film every two years maintaining that reclusive exclusivity.

So who's the bigger star? There are no simple answers to that one and their fans may not be the best people to answer the question.
