Rajendra Prasad's bank balance? Rs 1,432
PATNA: While the present day politicians declare assets worth crores, the balance amount of a savings account once held by the country's first president Rajendra Prasad is a meagre Rs.1,432.

The account in the Exhibition road branch of the Punjab National Bank here has not been closed by the authorities even after four decades of Prasad's death as a mark of respect to the Bharat Ratna awardee.

No one has come forward till date to withdraw the amount. His descendents have already migrated out of Bihar.

Bank officials said that the account was an asset and a matter of pride for the bank.

The balance signifies his (Prasad's) honesty and integrity in public life, they said.

Other prominent leaders like Jay Prakash Narayan and Maulana Mazharul Haque also had accounts in Punjab National Bank branches, the officials said.

Rajendra Prasad was born on Dec 3, 1884 at Zeradei in Bihar's Siwan district and died on Feb 28, 1963 in Patna.

Nisha shuns Good Luck superstition

No, I’m not adding an extra ‘a’ and ‘k’ to my name. Nor am I visiting a dozen deities for my well being,” says a laughing Nisha Kothari, denying rumours that she is getting progressively religious and superstitious to salvage her career. “My parents and I just visited one temple. In any case, I’m not answerable to anyone except my family,” she says. Crying foul against charges of misconduct on the sets of Aditya Dutta’s Good Luck, Nisha says, “I’ve never abused anyone. Stories of my bad behaviour on the sets are growing. I no longer find these rumours funny. I’ve not shot for any film called Good Luck. I couldn’t give them the dates they wanted. I said no to Good Luck, and maybe some people didn’t like that.”

About her role as Basanti in Ram Gopal Varma’s Sholay, she says, “I just finished dubbing for my role. I have seen Hemaji in the earlier Sholay but my character Ghungroo is not like Basanti. We dress, speak and behave differently. Ghungroo behaves like a man but she’s all woman inside. She’s a bundle of contradictions. There are different emotions to express in one character.”

"Vacchaava Rakshasaa Raa
Thechchaavaa Draaksha Saaraa
Raamma Nootana Samvatsaramma
Nuvvu Techchinadentamma? Jinna?? Rumma??"
