Telugu Film News 12-06-2007 Latest

Anuskha Leaked and Gopichand Continued
The producers of the film 'Lakshyam' thought to keep the name of Jagapathi Babu in hidden mode to give a surprise for audiences while the film is being screened in theaters. Nallamalupu Bujji assumed that but in a recent Press Meet Anushka out of the slip of tongue said 'Jagapathy Babu' did very well in the film. Later she regretted at the producer as well.

In fact, the news is in air in the form of gossip much before the commencement of shooting of the film. But the producer didn't say anything about that and people have almost forgotten.

But what has to be happened is happened. Now everybody is duly acknowledging Jagapathy Babu in Press Meets. Freshly Gopichand said that Jagapathy performed very well in the role of his brother.

Heroine Says She Believes Only In 'Mating'
"I don't believe in dating. I believe only in mating" says Sherlyn Chopra when questioned her about how she finds dating.

Sherlyn is quite excited about her new film Red Swastik which is doing an average business. The actress feels she is still didn't break Mallika's record, but feels very soon she will be able to do with lots of kisses and other bold stuff on screen. Probably she wants to be the next sex icon on silver screen. Earlier known as Mona chopra, the actress has changed her name to Sherlyn Chopra.

Sherlyn is coming out with her new music album 'Outrageous' and everyone is eager to see the bold lady doing some nasty things in the video album as well.

Side Talk: Muslim Anger On Sexy Mumtaz
Mumtaz is the actress with heavy assets who has been entertaining the audiences of Telugu and Tamil films from a few years. She is freshly acting in a Tamil film and for the same she posed with whisky bottle in her hand as a part for promotion.

Muslim heads condemned her acts and said that being a Muslim she shouldn't pose with liquor bottles and also shouldn't be in 'show-business' at all. They also warned her to face severity of Muslim anger as soon as the release of the film.

They forced her to withdraw from the film. But if she withdraws she needs to pay back the loss incurred by the producer so far.

When Mumtaz asked the Muslim heads if they can bear the loss, they simply negated that and asked her to pay for herself as a part of fine. Is it fine?!

Tarakarathna Aims Only On Tamil Stories

Tarakaratna aims only on Tamil stories now and does no way believe the themes given by Telugu writes. Almost all the films that he acted in Telugu so far are flops and now he is coming up with Mukkanti both in Tamil and Telugu at a time. Right now the shooting of the film is going on.

After the film, director Samudra is directing him for the film 'Venkatadri', which is a remake of Tamil hit Paruttiveeran. The film brought big break for Priyamani in Tamil recently.

So, Tarakarathna is more focused on Tamil subjects than the direct Telugu ones. Well, coming to Samudra even he is directing only remake themes. He made 'Yevadaithey Nakenti', the remake of Malayalam hit Lion and now making 'Sivakasi' remake with Kalyan Ram and Vedika in lead roles.

Gossip: Prabha Didn't Lose Her Figure At All

She had been an excellent performer 'Hari Katha'( A traditional way of story telling by dancing, acting and singing) before she entered filmdom. As there no takers for her on the screen, she resumed her old profession. She gave her performance in Hyderabad recently. She didn't lose her figure with ageing, many say. The custodians of Jubilee Hills Temple are now planning to arrange her 'Hari Katha' performance shortly.

Sports : ESPN acquires Cricinfo website

In a major sports media merger, leading broadcaster ESPN has acquired cricket website 'Cricinfo'.

"Growing our business in the on-line world is vital for us to serve sports fans. Cricinfo is a tremendous property with a great fan base and it will be a strong addition to ESPN," Russell Wolff, managing director of ESPN International, said in a statement on 'Cricinfo' on Monday.

"Cricinfo has developed into a significant cricket brand in its own right, combining huge global popularity with strong commercial success. ESPN is a major sports broadcaster and international rights holder and will provide the perfect environment for Cricinfo to further realise its enormous potential," Mark Getty, director of the Wisden Group which owns the website, said.

Cricinfo had its inception in 1993 as an on-line community of cricket fans supplying cricket-related information on a voluntary basis.

Beginning with scorecards and live scores, the portal offered users audio and video streaming of cricket matches.

After few years of independent existence, Cricinfo received its first major investment in 1999 from Sify, an Indian IT company, which acquired a majority stake in the company.

It changed hands four years later when the Wisden Group, which then ran its own cricket website, wisden.com, bought it.

Gossip: Balaiah fails to generate euphoria!
A lot of eyes and ears were open curiously, when film star Balakrishna celebrated his 48th birthday at Rajahmundry on Sunday amid speculations that he would make some announcement on his entry into politics.

But when it finally happened, there was no euphoria at all. All that Balaiah said was that he would emulate his father and strive for the uplift of the common man. The programme was organised by the Telugu Desam leaders like Ambika Krishna, but they all refrained from making any direct refernce to his political interests. Only Ambika Krishna said the people would see a different Balakrishna in the near future.

Sources in the TD said Balaiah expressed his desire to wait for some more time to enter politics, particulary till the release of his forth coming film "Okka Magadu." If the film becomes a hit and the people start talking about him, he can make an entry into politics. But if the film flops at the box office, he would get a negative talk among the people and it would not be an appropriate time for his political arangetram. He would strive to get a positive response from the people through his social service activities to regain his image before jumping into the fray, sources said.

Sangeetha's Tradtional Prostitution Role For Award!
Devadasis are the dancers who dedicated their lives for dancing before Gods in temples. But slowly they were misinterpreted as 'traditional prostitutes' by the society. Now Sangeetha played the role of a Devadasi girl in a film.

Sangeetha's powerful portrayal in Dhanam will fetch her national award, says director Siva.

Speaking about the movie, the debutant director says, "Dhanam is a powerful story of a Devadasi, a system that still prevails in Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and other parts of the country. Apart from the lead actor Prem, senior actors Kota Srinivasa Rao, Ashish Vidyarthi, Girish Karnad, Manobala and Ramesh Kanna are in the cast.

We have completed a major portion of the movie and the movie has shaped out very well," says Siva. He adds, "Ilayaraja has come up with brilliant music and Sangeetha has given a very strong performance. We shot the movie at a huge set erected at Ramoji studio in Hyderabad."

Jeeva is the cinematographer for the film while B Lenin edits the film for producers Nandhivaram Sampath Kumar and S Kousalyarani.

SV Ranga Rao Was Also Brand Ambassador

Working for commercials like brand Ambassador is not a new thing to note. While Savitri was the model for Lux Soap for some time, SV Ranga Rao was the brand ambassador for Berkeley Cigarettes.

The posters used to appear on walls with SV Ranga Rao holding Berkeley Cigarette between his fingers in 60s-70s.

It's a rare thing to note but that was not prominently noticed in those days by many due to the absence of televisions.

Tollywood gets Rs 7.5-cr ‘Sivaji’ shock
Tamil superstar Rajnikant has taken the fight right into the camp of the Telugu film industry which is firmly opposed to dubbed movies. According to industry sources, the rights for Rajni’s much-hyped ‘Sivaji’ in the Nizam territory went for a whopping Rs 7.5 crore.

The huge price commanded by ‘Sivaji’ has shocked Tollywood producers. Both the Tamil and dubbed Telugu version will be released simultaneously this Friday.

The Nizam territory, in film parlance, comprises Hyderabad and Telangana districts and is sold for up to Rs 7 crore for movies of top Telugu heroes. But with a price of Rs 7.5 crore, it’s a dubbed movie which has breached that ceiling. At an estimated Rs 85 crore, the movie may be the costliest ever made in India.

And what is a record of sorts for dubbed movies, ‘Sivaji’ is set for release in 100 theatres in the territory, including 40 in the twin cities. This has never happened for a dubbed film though movies with top Telugu heroes do get released in several theatres. The movie relates the tale of a businessman who loses all, but fights back to regain everything.

Stunned Telugu film producers in the forefront of the battle against dubbed films are now trying to figure a way out. “Our stand is clear. We will not cooperate with producers who release dubbed films. The rights of ‘Sivaji’ and some more dubbed films released recently were committed to be bought by producers before our decision of non-cooperation last year. So we are technically not against Rajnikant’s movie,” Telugu Film Producers Council secretary T V D Prasad told media.

‘Sivaji’ may also hit hard Telugu movies currently running at theatres. Movie pundits aver that Rajni’s presence may reduces audiences in Telugu films such as the Srikanth-starrer ‘Operation Duryodhana’, Ravi Teja’s ‘Dubai Seenu’, Venkatesh’s ‘Adavari Maatalaku Arthaleverule’ and Prabhas-starrer ‘Munna’ and ‘Aata’. “Apart from the fact that Rajnikant stars in the movie, there is a lot of craze for director Shankar’s films in Andhra Pradesh. It made business sense for us to buy the Nizam territory rights for the film,” said P Rammohan Rao, COO, Pyramid Saimira Theatre Limited, Andhra Pradesh.

It’s speculated that the Telugu rights for ‘Sivaji’ were bought by producer Bellamkonda Suresh for a whopping Rs 14 crore. According to sources, the advance booking for ‘Sivaji’ will begin from Tuesday in some theatres but movie-buffs will have to pay 30 per cent extra on their ticket because of the flexible ticket rate policy for new films. Though the SC recently said the entertainment tax would be the same for all language films, this may not be implemented in Andhra Pradesh for now.

JD Chakravarthy Showing Jagapathi As Arnold!
JD Chakravarthy is now making a film with Jagapathy Babu in lead role and that is known for all. It is said that JD asked Jagapathi to build the body in order to suit to the role he is intending to make. Already, Jagapathy Babu's body is known for its athletic nature. But JD asked him to build that like Arnold Schwarzenegger.

After knowing the success of Desa Muduru, JD must be thinking that the macho man look for hero would bring in positive results for the film at box office.

Well if these assumptions are right; it will be good for Jagapathy Babu to build up the body.

Chitchat with MS Raju About Aata

After having dream run with successive successes, quality filmmaker MS Raju got an upset in the form of Pournami last year. He is doing Aata with lot of vengeance and wants to prove that Pournami was just an aberration. His film Aata with Siddhardh and Ileana is releasing with 150 prints on 9 May. Here are the excerpts from a small chitchat.

What went wrong with your earlier film Pournami?
I think that fault lies with the script. I learnt a lesson from Pournami. However I don’t regret making it. I don’t mind making experimenting films like Devi Putrudu and Pournami once in a while.

What is the status of Aata film?
We almost completed the postproduction activities. We are trying our best to release the film on 9 May. The first copy will be ready in 2-3 days.

What is the storyline of the film Aata?
This is the most romantic and entertaining film I had ever done. It is about a boy who is mad about films. Inspired by the hero in films, he wants to replicate the same in the real life. Hence there is a social cause associated with it though we dealt the entire film with entertainment and romance. The characters in this film are going to be very consistent.

Tell us about the artists?
This film suit’s the sweet image of Siddhardh and charming looks of Ileana. Siddhardh considers me as a Godfather and I treat him like a son. Hence I worked more passionately for this film as it has Siddhardh whom I consider as my son. Heroine character in this film has an important role to play just like female leads in my earlier films. Sunil has an important and very entertaining character. The villain role in this film deserves to be done by any veteran Telugu villain. But we preferred a new guy called Munna for this role.

What is the reason behind not having proper gap between audio (27 April) and the movie (9 May) release?
We are in hurry as we produced this film in a very few number of days compared to my earlier films. It is the biggest audio in the recent times. The picturization of the songs is going to enhance it more.

You seem to have finished this film in minimum time?
Yes. We did take around 9 to 11 months to produce our earlier films. But this time we did it in 5 and half months. The movie length is also less compared to my earlier films. The movie length is 12,500 ft compared to my earlier films’ length of 14,500 ft. The shooting went on smoothly. We wrapped the film up in 105 working days. There is no wastage in this film.

What kind of response Aata film will generate?
My Okkadu film created history and it became a trendsetter like Shiva. The success of Aata will prompt the other filmmakers to follow it. There is fast tempo in story telling. The whole film will be of 2 and half hour duration including interval.

What is the reason for changing the heroine of Aata from Mamatha Mohan Das to Ileana?
We considered Mamatha Mohandas for a story given by Haresh Shankar. That story happens in Australia. But we changed the script at the last moment. I prepared this story and script long back. And for the heroine role in this script demands somebody like Ileana. There are certain scenes in this film which are inspired by real incidents. Paruchuri Gopala Krishna gave a compliment after watching Ileana in this film saying that songs exploited Ileana the way K Raghavendra Rao does to his heroines.

What are you going to announce on your birthday (10 May) this year?
Last year, I was little upset because of Pournami. I am sure that this time I will be in a happy mood because of Aata. I have two projects in my hand. One is Hare Rama Hare Krishna which will go on floors in October/November when both Mahesh Babu and Trivikram will be available. Script is ready for that film. Another film is going to be Telugu remake of a Kannada Blockbuster Mungara Male. We will do pooja without announcing the names of hero and director. This film will go to floors in June.

There are rumors that you will direct that film and your son Sumanth Ashwin will make his debut as hero?
These are just rumors. Sumanth Ashwin will surely act in films. But I am not sure when he is going to make his debut.

How many prints it Aata releasing with?
I am releasing the film on my own for most of the areas. This film will be releasing with 150 prints. On personal note, Paruchuri brothers felt that Aata film is better than NVNV. It will create the feel that hindi Bobby created when it was released.

Vijaya Chandar donates 14 acres

Veteran actor Vijaya Chandra made his debut 20 years back with Maro Charitra. His Jesus role in Karunamayudu got his tremendous appreciation.

Vijaya Chandar who is known for his ‘karunamayudu’ film has donated 14 acres of land in the outskirts of Hyderabad for old people. His friends also came forward to donate 4 more acres. Vijaya Chandra is donating and registered 2 acres each for Telugu film producers counsel, movie artists association and Telugu film directors association. These associations will use these 2 acres each to help the aged members of the respective associations.

He handed over the registration documents to these association through ANR at a press conference held today in Hyderabad. This press meet was also attended by Murali Mohan, Nagababu, SV Krishna Reddy etc.

Chitchat with Gopichand About Lakshyam

Gopichand is one of very few actors who can express intense feelings on the screen among the young lot of Telugu film industry. He created a niche for himself as a mass hero and works on selective projects. His next film Lakshyam is due for the release in June 2007.

What went wrong with Raraju?
The story appeared good when it was narrated, but the director went out of focus while directing it. There were some production lapses as well which resulted in the improper output. I came to know about the result of the film while I was dubbing for it.

What is the result of Okkadunnadu?
Commercially it is a safe project. It was a good film and did a lot of good to my career graph. I got close to the class audiences and A center crowds with this film.

How did your latest film Lakshyam materialize?
Bujji approached me with Srivas's story. Srivas's narrated the story in an inspiring manner. The story has all kinds of emotions to cater all types of genres. Srivas is confident and has lot of clarity. He gave good output and he knows what he wants.

What is the story of Lakshyam?
This is the story of a college student who faces a problem which forces him to set a target (Lakshyam) and achieve it. It is a full-fledged film will all kinds of emotions.

What is the best film you have done so far?
It is very difficult to leave out any film because I liked all those films at script level. My character in Yagnam turns from negative to positive. Ranam character is based on strategy. Andhrudu character is sophisticated and dignified. Raraju is a mass character. Okkadunnadu is stylish.

Tell us about Lakshyam heroine Anushka?
I saw Anushka's performance in Vikramarkudu and she has come a long way in this film. She is very dedicated to her work and hardworking. Anushka is a passionate learner.

Tell us about Nallamalupu Bujji?
I did not know him before making this film, but he is the most dedicated producer I worked with after Pokuri Babu Rao. He handles production issues very well and never compromise on production values if it is really needed for the film. He is very hard working and will have bright future as producer.

What is your next project?
My next project will be produced by Pokuri Babu Rao. BV Ramana (Gowri fame) will direct this film. It is a love story with action backdrop. There is a different point in this film.

How many films are you planning to do per year?
I aim to do 3 films an year, but that depends on the good subjects we get. This year you will see 3 releases from me.

Are you open for doing different kind of films?
I want to do different films. But our audiences look forward for certain kinds of films only. People don't accept if hero dies in the climax where as some of the greatest films in Hindi and Tamil have hero dieing the climax.

What is your involvement in filmmaking?
My involvement in the script lies till it is finalized. Once the film comes to sets, I just go there and do my work. I don't interfere. If I interfere in the sets, it will hurt the ego of director. All the directors work sincerely to give best output. By hurting their ego, we are only harming the film.

Are you open for a multistarrer?
Yes, if I get the right script.

What is your dream character?
I want to do anti-hero films like Ahuti. I want to do films that show lot of intensity. I would like to do films like Godfather and Scarface (the films done by Robert Di Nero and Al Pacino in their prime time). There will be lot more scope for performance in films like these.

Did you like any recent Telugu films?
I liked many films in the last couple of years. But what I find most inspiring is the performance of NTR in Rakhi film.

What do you do in your spare time?
I used to play cricket in the spare time. But not anymore. I love chatting with friends.

What is your dream car?
BMW 7 Series is my dream car. I will buy it when I earn that much of money. My first car was a Matiz which I bought before Jayam happened. That is when I decided that I would buy a big car when I become a hero. And I bought Toyota Corolla after I became hero with Yagnam. Right now I am using the same car.

What kind of emotions you would love to do?
I like doing comedy scenes. I also like to do scenes that involve giving intense expressions. I loved working for Jayam film as Teja extracted lots of intense performance from me.

Do you get any female fan mail?
Interestingly, I got many calls from girls when I did negative roles in Jayam and Varsham. I think in the deep of the heart of every human being there is an animal that gets attracted to the bad things first. I got lot of appreciation for Okkadunnadu film as well.

How do you keep yourself fit?
I daily workout at a gym for 45 minutes as it is important to spare only one hour a day for if you want to stay fit. Only the body builders need to workout in gym for more than an hour.

How are you coping up with the fame after becoming an actor?
I try to mingle with others and I don't want to live in a shell. I know that whatever fame I got as an actor is not forever. If I start enjoying it, I will have to repent at leisure when I am deprived of it.
