City Buzz: Minting Money In 'Hyderabadi' Style

Ever since ‘The Angrez’ made waves with its Hyderabadi lingo, people are queuing up to make more such movies.

After duds like ‘Charminar Boyz’ and the more recent ‘Hungama in Dubai,’ half a dozen more Hyderabadi movies are in the pipeline. Even as these small-time producers are trying their luck with audience preferences, one producer at least is laughing all the way to the bank.

‘Hyderabad Nawabs’ is easily the most successful of all these alternative movies coming out in the city. Not only did it give ‘Lage Raho Munnabhai’ a run for its money in the first three weeks of their simultaneous release, the movie’s DVD and satellite rates are hitting the sky. The DVD rights were sold for a very impressive Rs 52 lakh and the satellite rights are going for a whopping Rs 1 crore. And the sales of DVDs, market watchers say, is very good among their NRI clients who want a taste of their good Hyderabad.
