Chitchat with YVS Chowdary

YVS Chowdary is the man of mass audience and when he directs Bala Krishna, the expectations are unlimited. But YVS is cool like a cucumber even though his latest film Okka Magaadu is releasing with high expectations. The film experts say that Okka Magaadu will surely break the records irrespective of the talk. Here are the excerpts -

Tell us about Okka Magaadu?
When we announced the project on 9 August 2006, the expectations were humongous worldwide. And we are releasing the film on 11 January 2008. I stayed away from the hype associated with the project and done with dedication and determination. I came to the industry because of my addiction to legend NTR. I learnt the good qualities like working hard, dedication and fighting spirit from NTR only.

Okka Magadu is my seventh directorial venture. MM Keeravani composed the Okka Magaadu song in Tirumala guest house for Seetayya film. This song created a history with good beat, nice choreography and colorful picturization. Okka Magaadu song encapsulates all the qualities a girl looks out in a man. We had legend NTR in our mind while penning lyrics.

I had been having a potential story meant for any hero of god worship with me for a long time. And when Keeravani composed that song, I realized that Okka Magaadu is the right title for the script I had worked for. I registered the title immediately after coming to Hyderabad. When I started developing the scripts, I realized that Bala Krishna is the only hero who could do justice.

I met Bala Krishna during the postproduction time of Devadasu and narrated the script. And it excited him very much and he accepted the project. If he rejected this script, I would have put this subject away forever and went on making films with other scripts because this script is made for 'one and only' Bala Krishna." I worked with Bala Krishna as an assistant director for Pattabhishekam. I was the co-director for Aswamedham film. He is undoubtedly the most handsome hero. He has gone the royal lineage of Nandamuri. He has terrific god-worship image among the fans. These three qualities are required for Okka Magaadu film. I will give the total credit of success of Okka Magaadu film for Bala Krisna only. I feel that technicians are always technicians. We used the image of stars like Bala Krishna to enhance our work. Star heroes channelize our work and thought process and carry them to the masses and there by increase the span of longevity of the films.

Bala Krishna is looking very handsome in Okka Magaadu. What is the secret?
That is how I want to see Bala Krishna on screen. Each director has his own mental vision about how he is going to project his hero. For me Bala Krishna should be presented the way I had done in Okka Magaadu. It came from my thought process and imagination.

Do you have any message in this film?
I opine that the films are primarily meant for entertainment. All my films cater to the movie lovers and I am not the kind of guy who feel that movies should give messages. Even if there are any message, I make sure that they are sugar-coated.

Do you think that Okka Magaadu is going to act as catalyst to the entry of Bala Krishna in politics?
I am a passionate filmmaker. I prepare scripts and make films as per scripts. I made Okka Magaadu as per the demand of the script. I did not deviate from it to have any political angle. The entire film of Okka Magaadu is going to be non-controversial. When we make a film of Okka Magaadu stature, we make sure that it caters to all sectors of audiences.

Why did you take so many days to shoot this film?
Though we went to floors in December 2006, we could shot only three songs in the next four months. We started the talkie shoot in April and completed the entire film by December. We shot the film in many locations like Australia, Malaysia, Rayala Seema, Rajahmundry and Hyderabad. We went to USA for 20 days to consult make-up technicians.

You bought a theater in Gudiwada and showing Okka Magaadu as the inaugural film in it. How do you feel about it?
It is one of the most memorable moments in my life. I was the town president of Gudiwada for NTR fans. Films like Kodanveeti Simham and Sardar Papa Rayudu created records when I was the president. I moved to Chennai at the age of 19 and Gopala Krishna theater was constructed after that. Many of Chiranjeevi's films ran for 100 days in Gopala Krishna. I bought that theater and renovated it. It is the first DTS A/C theater in Gudiwada. It is a thrilling moment for me to release Okka Magaadu film in my own theater as an inaugural film.

How is the response for the audio?
The audio of Okka Magaadu has been liked immensely by all sectors of music lovers.

How is the response for Okka Magaadu in overseas?
All the NRI's perceive Okka Magaadu as a Bala Krishna film made by a director who adulates NTR like a God. And I had been crafting my career graphs in a very respectable way with decent hits. I am like Dravid for Indian cricket team with consistent track record. Hence the expectations are high when our combination film was announced. I am very confident that Okka Magaadu will satisfy all the overseas crowds who have tremendous expectations on this film.

Tell us about make-up for the unrevealed character of Bala Krishna in Okka Magaadu?
Eeswar prepared sketches for Bala Krishna and Simran. We went to USA and met Academy award nominated make-up technician. He assisted us in getting the right make-up done. Bala Krishna used to get up at 3:30 and come to the location. It takes around 4 hours to put on the make-up and one hour to take the make-up off. It was very tedious process and Bala Krishna enthusiastically participated in the shooting with make-up.

Do you think Okka Magaadu is going to create records?
Records are meant to be broken and records are not permanent. Records of a blockbuster were decided on day one or in the first week. I am a passionate filmmaker and I made a good film. I want everybody to appreciate it. I don't make films for records. But if Okka Magaadu breaks records I will be very happy because I came from the grassroots level of a fan.

Dasari said in the audio function that there is a caste based message in the film that targets some popular personality. Is it true?
All you guys know me in person. I am not the kind of guy who hurts anybody feelings. I am the one who made the film and I know the dialogues in the film. I can assure that not even a single dialogue in this film is of controversial nature.

If you have to describe Okka Magaadu in one sentence?
Okka Magaadu offers 'South Indian Spicy Meals' to all the audiences.

Tell us about your next film 'Rey' with Ram?
Let the Okka Magaadu release first. I will talk about my next film later.

Pawan caught with BSP leaders
Snap shots of Pawan Kalyan enjoying a good conversation with BSP leaders hit the television screens of TV9 just a couple of days after BSP leader Surya Prakash revealed to the media that the lanky actor had expressed his wish to join the party even if big brother Chiranjeevi did not want to. The photos have apparently been sent by the BSP members them selves after a couple of media reports claimed that the meeting was false news. This latest happening has just added to Pawan’s list of infamous incidents with the media.

Behind The Scene: Pawan case is gone case?

The image “http://www.greatandhra.com/newsimages/pawankalyan31199554595.jpg” cannot be displayed, because it contains errors.

It looks like the bigamy case of Pawan Kalyan is going to fizzle out, if one looks at the way the court is deferring the case unendingly.

According to the family sources, Pawan Kalyan is buying peace with his first wife Nandini, since the image of the family is at stake in the wake of his brother Chiranjeevi entering the politics. On the other hand, the police report, too, was manipulated to suit the interests of Pawan Kalyan.

If everything works out well, both will agree for divorce and Pawan Kalyan would pay the required alimony to her. That is the reason why both of them did no turn up at the court, citing different reasons.

Screen Buzz: Is Trisha's Name Also Nandini?

The image “http://www.greatandhra.com/newsimages/trisha11199603237.jpg” cannot be displayed, because it contains errors.

VV Vinayak names his heroine as Nandini in every film. We already said this long back. The name of Keerthi Chawla in 'Adi' is Nandini. The name Nayantara in Yogi is Nandini. The name of Sjriya in Tagore is Nandini. So will Trisha's name in the film 'Krishna' also stands to be 'Nandini'?

The movie is set to release on 12th of this month and the posters are proving to be very promising. The glamour does of Trisha is felt enough and Vinayak says that it is the movie that goes in the backdrop of Vijayawada and Kanakadurga Temple. It's again and action dose in the school of Vinayak. Ravi Teja's portrayal stands strong it seems.

Keeping that everything aside, will Vinayak continue his sentimental name Nandini again? Or will he bring a change? That has to be seen. If he continues, a focus should be kept on real life Nandini in Vinayak's life.

CC Reddy Loses Money and Troubles Film Magazines

The image “http://www.greatandhra.com/newsimages/ccreddy1199610854.jpg” cannot be displayed, because it contains errors.

There is a talk about CC Reddy in Film circles. Many say that he is very good at heart and encourages new talent in the industry. He also said that he didn't calculate any figures for 'Mee Sreyobhilashi' but simply made it with an intention to make a good movie.

Once he announced Rs 1 lakh publicly for the film 'Ink' that was made by Tanikella Bharani with an idea to encourage new frame of film making. Everything is fine but a few film magazine people say that CC Reddy delays in paying dues when the film flops.

"He loses money intentionally in film making and delays our payments later. We feel uncomfortable to ask him as he stands in loss. It doesn't mean that he skips payment but delays", says a reporter of magazine.

That's the style of CC Reddy!

Rumors: Nayantara Refused Rs 1.5 Cr Offer!

The image “http://www.greatandhra.com/newsimages/nayana-hot1199614998.jpg” cannot be displayed, because it contains errors.

We heard that Ileana touched Rs 1 Cr mark with remuneration by signing on the film on Bellamkonda's banner. Now Nayantara also joined the line. She too touched that fancy figure.

She joins the select band of Indian actresses like – Kareena, Aishwarya Rai, Rani Mukerjee, Preity Zinta, Deepika Padukone (after OSO) who are paid Rs One crore and above.

After Billa, Nayanthara has become a sort of glamour icon, and is the new pin-up girl for the youth audiences. And at the same time she is kicking back a few offers for not meeting the remuneration to her expectations. A top liquor brand has offered her Rs 1.50 crore to do an ad for them, which she has politely refused. So Nayana's figures have changed now. She is expecting Rs 3 Cr and above for Ad contracts!

Gossip: Heroine Earning Rs 25,000 for A Few Hours

You can easily tell who this star-kid is. Just observe his father. Does he not resemble today's most popular Bollywood star? Yes, he is perfect match for Aamir Khan. The tiny boy is Aamir and the one holding him is his dad. So Aamir Khan took the features of his dad perfectly.

Gossip: Dasari's Attempt To Kill 'Apadamokkulavadu'!

The image “http://www.greatandhra.com/newsimages/apadamokulavada1199592422.jpg” cannot be displayed, because it contains errors.

The film 'Apadamokkulavadu' was scheduled to release yesterday but the ticket counters weren't opened as the boxes didn't each any theater in time. Initially, the theater sources said that the show of the film would start from matinee. But entire day was silent without the release of the film. But inside sources said that Dasari is behind this incident who stopped its release intentionally by not paying a due of about Rs 50 lakhs.

Dasari bought the film for distribution on his Siri Media but willingly wished to stop its release as it campaigns Chiranjeevi's political entry in big way. Dasari wanted to kill the film by pushing it away from this weekend, so that it loses collections. But the producer A Mallikarjuna managed to make arrangements to release it today, i.e on Sunday.

However, thus artificial hype is boosting the public interest on the film.

Star Talk: Bipasha loves her independence!

The image “http://www.greatandhra.com/newsimages/bipasha41199585356.jpg” cannot be displayed, because it contains errors.
Bipasha Basu preaches exactly what she practises. “It’s not about being a feminist, but I like being independent. And that’s what I tell my sister too. I have seen my friends going through bad marriages and it can be really tough if you don’t have anything to fall back on,” she says. And that’s what Bipasha strictly follows. “I don’t ever see myself being dependent on anyone. I never want to be in a position when I have to ask someone for money. But that doesn’t mean gifts aren’t welcome; I love receiving gifts,” she laughs.

Rumors: Siddarth-Soha live together now!

The image “http://www.greatandhra.com/newsimages/sohaalikhan1199561907.jpg” cannot be displayed, because it contains errors.

Soha Ali Khan couldn’t have been at a happier place at the moment. Not only is she basking in the glory of rave reviews for her performance in Khoya Khoya Chand but her personal life is going great guns too. For the first time she can come out in the open with boyfriend Siddharth, who’s moved base to Mumbai and has settled straight into Soha’s suburban pad.

The two have thrown caution to the wind after Siddharth decided to stand by his woman and let go of his marriage. He’s often seen in the company of Soha’s friends even when she’s out of town, entertaining them and making up for Soha’s absence.

The two work out together; he’s present during her script narrations and even helps her out with home shopping, as the two were recently spotted at a home décor store, picking up knick-knacks for the house. Shopping done, he lugged all the bags to the car and waited with the door open for his ladylove. Could this Rang De Basanti brood get any sweeter?

Chitchat with Sonia

Sonia who played the character of Shravs in Happy Days was like any other girl in her early twenties, till she was spotted by Shekar Kammula few months back. The twenty-three-year-old IT girl is the latest find of Telugu film industry and she oozes confidence coupled with exuberant smile. Running high on success after Happy Days she shares her future plans. Excerpts:

Tell us about your background?
I am born and brought up in Hyderabad, equipped with a degree in computer applications. I have been working as a software engineer for the last three years in an IT company. I don’t have any filmy background.

How did you get into Happy Days project?
I used to participate in few events during my leisure time. Shekar Kammula spotted me during the Telugu cinema vajrostavalu. Then he called me for an audition. Initially, I was offered the role of Appu. He gave the script and asked me to understand the character and then come for the audition. After looking at my performance, he offered me the role of Shravs.

How did you interpret the character?
I was as natural as I could be. I was never into acting/dramatics. Sekhar Kammula asked me to do it my own way. My histrionics in Happy Days was my own interpretation of the character and the way I read in the script.

You seem to be the elder one among the main leads who worked for Happy Days. How did they treat you?
I am 23 and I am the oldest among the main leads in Happy Days. Initially they thought that I was dominant. Slowly all of us bonded with each other very well. I shared room with Gayatri Rao (Appu) during the shoot. We had no problems at all.

What are your favorite scenes in this film?
The scene in which Rajesh says 'ee kodento' and the other scenes in which Tyson says 'enthaina mana friend kadara'.

Are there any similarities to Shravs character and your real self?
Yes. There is Shravs in me. I don't throw much attitude around, but there is definitely attitude in me. I take some time for me to mingle with new friends.

Did you get any proposals from your juniors in college time?
I was a quite girl then. I used to wear Salwar and Kameez. After college I transformed into western outfits.

How is the response for your performance in Happy Days?
The first feedback I got was through Jeevi review in idlebrain.com. I missed all the excitement because I was in the USA for three months after the release.

How did your family respond?
They were little skeptical and anxious about it first. But they felt really happy after watching the film.

What are you hobbies?
I love reading books. Godfather is my all time favorite. I love spending time with friends and traveling. I love writing too.

What are your favorite films?
Among the Telugu films I loved Bommarillu and Pokiri. My all time classic film is 'Sound of Music".

What do you think are your strengths?
I am confident. I can bring smile to the people's faces.

How do you feel when the public recognize you as a film actress?
I feel flattered.

What kind of roles would you want to do in future?
I want to do roles that generate a positive impact with characterizations.

What are your future projects?
Since I was in USA for 3 months after release, most of the filmmakers assumed that I went to the USA forever. Now I am back and I am interested doing good roles.

What are your future plans?
I will be quitting my job soon. I keep my options open in movies. I want to do my own business in entertainment line. I might open a restaurant or a flower shop.

Reel Buzz: Why Attacks Only On Balakrishna?

The image “http://www.greatandhra.com/newsimages/okkamagadu11199523805.jpg” cannot be displayed, because it contains errors.

After the incident of Paruchuru the same incident took place in Ongole as well. The face of Balakrishna was taken away from the cut out of 'Okka Magadu' at these places. Why these attacks are only on Balakrishna?

There is ample fan-base for Balakrishna and it is obvious that it is the act of his antagonists who can be the fans of other hero. But such acts are hurting the sentiments of Balayya fans. No only the street-side guys but also a few learned people have made attacks on Balakrishna during the release of 'Veerabhadra' and 'Maharadhi'. Many of jokes and cartoons were circulated among the internet users those days. Now such attacks were minimized to large extent and that is a healthy change.

Balakrishna started getting this antagonism ever since the 'shooting' episode at his house. But he has been striving a lot to get back his image and to be in good books of everyone. His well-behaved manner at 75-years Platinum Jubilee function of Tollywood impressed everyone. But still there is black sheep among film buffs who are spitting venom on a few stars for no concrete reason. Let us hope that this scenario changes and all the film buffs walk from darkness to light- 'Tamasoma Jyothirgamaya'.

Snippet: Kalyanram Makes Double Role Debut!

The image “http://www.greatandhra.com/newsimages/kalyanram1199519247.jpg” cannot be displayed, because it contains errors.

Actor Kalyan Ram who is almost on the brink of stardom's end has been working very hard to get back to the race.

His recent film 'Vijayadasami' failed to impress at the box office and now he is working on a new film wherein he is doing a double role. This is the first time he is doing a dual role and the film is directed by Harsha Vardhan and produced by Janaki Ram who happens to be Kalyan's brother.

While the other details of the film are not known, Priyamani will be playing the lead role as heroine. The shoot is currently on at Hyderabad.

The Man Who Deceived Pawan Kalyan

The image “http://www.greatandhra.com/newsimages/pawankalyan21199519593.jpg” cannot be displayed, because it contains errors.

It's not Nalla Suryaprakasa Rao who deceived Pawan Kalyan by releasing the photographs of him with BSP leaders. The man behind is Masterjee, the lyricist. Masterjee was a clerk in FCI (Food Corporation of India) who is an SC. He is a good poet in Gaddar school of thought and approached Pawan Kalyan with a few songs. He was introduced in 'Johnny' with the song 'Naraju gaakura maa Annayo..'. Then the relation between Masterjee and Pawan Kalyan was tightened. Hence he got another chance to write the song 'Killi Killi Killi..' in 'Gudumba Shankar'.

Sources say that Masterjee is very shrewd but opportunist as well. He is opportunist only in one matter. He moves close with Scs while fighting for 'rights' and joins OCs while earning a few bucks, say sources. Apart from that he is very good at heart, add sources.

Once, Masterjee took Pawan Kalyan to Gaddar. Pawan Kalyan considered Masterjee and Gaddar only as singing artistes and poets. But eventually Masterjee thought to show his mettle by saying that Pawan Klayan is behind him while talking to BSP leaders recently. They asked Masterjee to bring Pawan Kalyan to their meeting in an informal way. As usual, as Masterjee took Pawan to Gaddar earlier, he took him to BSP leaders as well. A few photographs were taken that day. And now they are used by Nalla Suryaparakasha Rao stating that Pawan came to them to join hands.

Sources also said that Pawan screwed Masterjee verbally after this incident. So, the real man behind deceiving Pawan Kalyan is Masterjee, who acted too smart and dragged him to BSP imbroglio.

Choreographer Turned Director Slapped Producer?

There is a gossip that is making rounds now in the Film Nagar. Even a TV channel reported the same saying that a director slapped the producer as a strife developed between them.

And another source said that the director was a choreographer as well. The gossip said that the director slapped his producer as the latter reprimanded him for making the film a flop despite spending big amount on that. If that is the case there are only two choreographers turned directors now those made 'not up to the mark films' despite high budget.

One is Lawrence who made 'Don' in the production of ML Kumar Choudary and the other is Amma Rajasekhar who made 'Takkari' in the production of Paruchuri Prasad. There is no confirmation in the news and the imagination is left to the discretion of people.

"Chiranjeevi should learn to be balanced while speaking. He is yet to master that, it appears. He gave arrogant answer to a question. When asked about the people those are saying about his political entry in confirmed way, Chiru said, "Are they that shrewd and great to know what is their in my mind? Are they saying that reading everything from my mind?"

This has given negative signal for many. Although there is no direct arrogance in that answer, it gives that flavor", said a TDP leader this morning in an informal discussion.

That is really true to some extent. Media is too sensitive that it highlights only such statements.

Chiranjeevi is known for indelible smile on his face. He maintained that and bagged good name. Now it is a big task for him to maintain pleasant talk all the while without becoming volatile for small things.

For the first time ever in overseas cinema history a Telugu movie ran continuously for 100 days in USA. Sekhar Kammula’s Happy Days opened on Septemeber 28th in USA ( 4 days before it opened in India on October 2nd). It opened with a bang and collected the highest opening collections for any telugu movie till date in USA. Now Happy days creates another record. Happy Days is being exhibited in Dallas, Touring Talkies Theaters with no interruption from September 28th and completes 100 days run tomorrow, the Saturday, January 5th. Typically in USA the movies are screened over the weekends and occasionally on weekdays. Even big hits run in major cities for a maximum of 4-5 weeks. But this is the first time a Telugu movie was screened for all 100 days with 3 shows per day. It is also believed that this is the first ever 100 days run for any Indian movie overseas. Melodious music, Nostalgic elements and freshness made Happy Days a clean family entertainer. It is matter of pride for every telugu person and it shows the following Sekhar Kammula has with NRIs.

Genelia's 'Pepper', Raja's 'Trixy' and Neelakanta's 'Tipsy'

Well, those are the names of pet dogs. The common factor among Genelia, Neelakanta and Raja is love for pets. Out of all, Raja's 'Trixy' is a Labrador which is very well-behaved as said by the unit members of 'Mister Medhavi'. Yes, the unit members are very well familiar with Trixy. And they say about Genelai pet 'Pepper' which goes with its name. "It's hot like the heroine!!!" said a unit member.

"Pepper is always lovelorn for me. She turns red if I were absent at home for longer shooting schedules. I cannot miss her on my birthday", said Genelia.

Pepper came all the way from Mumbai for the birthday of Genelia when she was shooting for Mister Medhavi. And last but not least is Tipsy, the pet dog of director Neelakanta. Tipsy is a male and hence managed to flirt with Pepper and Trixy in a shrewd way. Obviously without letting Pepper and Trixy know about his double flirt game!!

Is that not interesting? Unit members say that they enjoyed a lot.

Chiru uses Nagendra to fire his first salvo

Hyderabad: On Saturday, the bugle will sound. Chiranjeevi will open political fire. But, for now, he would use brother Nagendra Babu’s shoulder to do so.

A beaten-into-shape Nagendra would lead the cast in a highly-political film ‘Aapada Mokkula Vaadu’ (One who rescues the distressed, a reference to Lord Venkateshwara) to be released in as many as 15 theatres in the city. Here he dons the role of a small-time politician (ZPTC member) who takes on the political system that’s ‘off-track’.

“The movie will prepare the ground for Chiranjeevi to smoothly enter the political arena,” a close aide of director Posani Krishnamurali said. A TV interview scene is used to wish aloud Chiranjeevi’s entry into politics. “Chiranjeevi kooda politics lo vasthe prajala gundello nilichi pothadu (If Chiranjeevi enters politics, he will remain in the hearts of the people forever),” one of the characters says.

It was last year that Posani Krishnamurali had directed another political potboiler — ‘Operation Duryodhana’ — which ran to packed houses. The movie castigated politicians but so acerbic were the dialogues that the Censor Board had to step in. The director had to make 41 cuts and 20 subcuts before it was released. The latest movie also faced six-seven cuts and carries an ‘A’ certificate for violence.

“The movie is about how politics needs to change,” Posani said.

But, clearly, there appears to be a purpose in casting Chiranjeevi’s brother in the lead. Posani had declared publicly that he kept the Chiranjeevi in mind while moulding Nagendra’s character. Nagendra has been donning character roles in recent years after failing to make it big as a hero. But with his reduced flab and a role with ample opportunity to mouth powerful political dialogues, the actor, for all practical purposes, would be making the path clear for elder brother Chiranjeevi to take to the political battlefield.
